My Body, Your Roots
My Body, Your Roots documents the dialog between the cyclical relationship of life and death, rot and birth, while simultaneously exploring the reciprocity between earth and persons. Through the act of support and rest My Body, Your Roots explores the interconnectivity, culling, and nurturing relationship of human and land. Juniper, a local tree, stands in as an icon of the earth, while the artist rests in an attempt to both stabilize and balance the exposed shrub. The vulnerability of both plant and artist creates space for deeper connection, as the plant rests on the stomach of the artist the roots drape over the body, skin to skin, this touch in turn, with the breathing of the artist and the output of oxygen from the plant, fuses the body to the plant creating a oneness between the two. Over the course of two hours this connection is maintained and explored through the lens of the camera. The closeness of the two appears to be both an echo of a funerary arrangement or an intimate exchange; both a display of the formed bond. The durational examination of human interconnectivity with land and specifically fauna, elaborates on the closeness we share with nature while alluding to the continued weight both press upon one another.
